My  Mother’s  Daughter  Guide

May 2025

What would we do without our moms? If you follow our Instagram, you may have seen our mother commenting on every single one of our photos. Seriously, go check if you don’t believe us, she’s our biggest fan and most loyal supporter. Being a mom is a thankless job, and they get just one day a year dedicated to them for a reason. This Mother’s Day, we decided to create matching outfits for us and our ultimate best friend!

First up: The Apple Doesn’t Fall Far. As much as we hate to admit it, we’re a lot alike, maybe in looks, but definitely in gestures and weird little quirks. So we figured, why not add style to the list too? Then there’s The Built-In Best Friend, because no one will take your side in every argument, or believe you’re absolutely perfect no matter what, quite like your mom. Obviously, we had to include a nod to some of the most iconic mother and daughters out there (whether you like them or not, we know you’ve seen that clip) with The Cute Genes looks. And finally, The Cut From the Same Cloth, because if you’re anything like us, the random hills you’d die on probably come straight from your mom’s eccentric childhood wisdom.

Turns out, being a little like your mom isn’t the worst thing and she deserves to feel the love and appreciation this Mother'Ds day, alongside a new outfit of course.

The Apple doesn’t fall far

Nothing puts a smile on a mother’s face more than a stranger asking, “Is this your sister?” So, hey, may as well lean into it with matching outfits that practically beg for the compliment. This mother-daughter street style moment is ideal for a day of shopping, brunching, and talking shit about the rest of the family. Start with some cozy base layers: a soft brown cardigan for mom and a white backless boat-neck top for you. Then throw on some light spring outerwear, we’re talking a cropped trench coat and a plaid bomber jacket for a little mix-and-match moment. For bottoms, mom’s in brown striped trousers while you go sporty with brown track pants featuring a bold red stripe. Both looks get finished off with comfy low-top sneakers—because you have things to buy and mimosas to drink, we can’t have blisters cutting this day short. Top it all off with a few interchangeable accessories: an embroidered baseball cap, red sunglasses, a gold-and-red charm necklace, and a woven red tote. Viola, you are ready for fitting room fashion shows and egging each other on to buy that impractical but oh-so-pretty top in the window. It’s the type of day that will have you realizing you didn’t fall far at all.

The Built-in best friend

If you told us when we were teenagers that our mom would become our best friend, we probably would’ve gawked at you, maybe even thrown in a dramatic eye roll for good measure. But here we are, full-grown adults, calling our mom after every minor inconvenience, every tiny win at work, and sometimes just to narrate our commute to work. So when we get the rare chance to spend a whole day together, we take it one step further: we coordinate outfits. Both looks follow the same foolproof formula: graphic t-shirt, midi skirt, and black ballet flats. Your outfit leans a little eccentric with a colorful oversized tee featuring a lamp print (in a cool way, don’t worry) and a sheer, polka-dot sequin skirt. And mom’s outfit is anything but boring, with a UV-reactive floral tee and a smoked-waist poplin skirt that says “Don’t forget who dressed who first.” Accessorize accordingly with polka-dot hoop earrings, a clear resin flower ponytail holder, and a periwinkle leather shoulder bag. Who gets what? That’s between you and mom, and she’s earned first pick (and maybe second pick, too). Because nothing says emotional growth quite like sharing accessories with the woman you once yelled obscenities at over curfew.

The cute Genes

These outfits are what happens when you pair cute genes with cute jeans. Mom’s in a pinstripe shirt and slit-front midi skirt. It’s clean, cool, and reminds you that she may know the ins and outs of her local farmers market, but could also negotiate your rent contract with enough force to make even New York City landlords cower. On your side, a contoured denim jacket and wide-leg jeans to help you flaunt what your mama gave ya. Matching brown kitten heels—hers in suede, yours in cow-print. Finish off with a modern take on some classic accessories such as a tiger’s eye French hairpin, a freshwater pearl bracelet, and a pink mesh tote bag for an effortless mix of both your styles. These are = looks that say you’re related—but not in a matching family vacation t-shirts kind of way. Because at some point, twinning became less embarrassing and more strategic, especially when mom’s closet is better stocked than yours.

The cut from the same cloth

The Cut From The Same Cloth is for the duo who share more than DNA—they share a deep appreciation for well-cut jackets, a mutual disdain for wrinkled clothing, and an uncanny ability to insult someone without them realizing it. Mom’s in her element with a striped button-down, relaxed silver trousers, and a cardigan that practically smells like high standards. She’s the kind of woman who owns a label maker and still looks cooler than half of Copenhagen Fashion Week. You follow her lead in a sleek pinstripe blazer with washed silver denim and a minimalist button-up tank. Add a loafer slide or a woven ballet flat, because you never need to choose between comfort and poise. Throw in a couple of accessories, such as a silver ear cuff, thin frame eyeglasses, a structured black bag, and a melted frame watch, that are just eccentric yet polished enough to show you both have learned a little something from each other over the years. Remember, it’s not about dressing alike—it’s about dressing well. And let’s be honest: if anyone deserves fashion icon status, it’s the woman who taught you how to walk in heels and run away from men who wear baseball hats to dinner.
